Where to Shop in Washington DC
Washington DC might just have the reputation of being all work, no play. The stereotype being that everyone is concerned with politics or law, all in business suits or professional attire. So it may not exactly have the fashion credibility that New York or Los Angeles do. However, since living here, I've discovered that DC has a wide array of amazing boutiques and shopping opportunities. One just needs to a look at the local population, students, as well young professionals moving to the city, to witness a fresh energy in the city's culture and fashion. Here are some of my favorites neighborhoods, streets, and stores to find amazing clothes:
City Center DC
This is the city's destination for luxury shopping. Gucci, Hermés and Louis Vuitton all reside here. Resembling an outdoor mall, it's the perfect place to find an item to splurge on.
Vince - minimalist, high-quality neutrals and essentials
DC's oldest historic neighborhood, plus a commercial and entertainment district, this is one of the best places to go shopping. Hundreds of retailers (recognizable national and international brands as well as curated boutiques) are located among M street and Wisconsin avenue.
AllSaints - edgy, British brand known for their leather jackets
Rag & Bone - innovative denim brand with cult following and and chic urban wear
Moving away from the more tourist-friendly shopping destinations, 14th street in the Logan Circle neighborhood is a great place to find eclectic, dependable fashion.
Redeem - independent urban boutique featuring inventive jewelry
The Shaw neighborhood is a trendy and quickly-developing area known for its casual-chic bars and restaurants. Now, it is emerging as a fashion district. The neighborhood features beautifully curated, unique boutiques.
Argent - colorful yet sharp suiting and workwear
Violet Boutique - local, on-trend clothing boutique with affordable accessories
